9Andthefifthmessengerblew,andIsawastar,outofheavenfallentotheearth,anduntohimwasgiventhekeyoftheshaftofthebottomlesspit.
2Andheopenedtheshaftofthebottomlesspit;andthereascendedasmokeoutoftheshaft,asthesmokeofagreatfurnace;andthesunandtheairweredarkenedfromthesmokeoftheshaft.
3Andoutofthesmokecamelocuststotheearth,anduntothemwasgivenpower,asthescorpionsoftheearthhavepower.
4Anditwassaiduntothemthattheyshouldnothurtthegrassoftheearth,neitheranygreenthing,noranytree;butthemenwhohavenotthesealofGodontheirforeheads.
5Anduntothemitwasgiventhattheyshouldnotkillthem,butthattheyshouldbetormentedfivemonths,andtheirtormentwasasthetormentofascorpion,whenitstrikesaman.
6Andinthosedaysshallthemenseekdeath,andshallinnowayfindit;andshallyearntodie,anddeathfleesfromthem.
7Andtheappearancesofthelocustswerelikehorsesprepareduntowar;andontheirheadswereasitwerecrownslikegold,andtheirfaceswereasthefacesofmen.
8Andtheyhadhairasthehairofwomen,andtheirteethwereasoflions.
9Andtheyhadbreastplates,asitwerebreastplatesofiron;andthevoiceoftheirwingswasasthevoiceofchariotsofmanyhorsesrunningtowar.
10Andtheyhavetailslikescorpions,andstings,andintheirtailsistheirpowertohurtthemenfivemonths.
11Theyhaveoverthemaking,whoisthemessengerofthebottomlesspit,whosenameintheHebrewtongueisAbaddon,andintheGreektonguehehasthenameApollyon.
12Theonewoehaspassed;behold,therecomesyettwowoesafterthesethings.
13Andthesixthmessengerblew,andIheardonevoicefromthe[four]hornsofthegoldenaltarwhichisbeforeGod,
14sayinguntothesixthmessenger,whohasthetrumpet,ReleasethefourmessengerswhoareboundatthegreatriverEuphrates.
15Andthefourmessengerswerereleased,whowerepreparedforthehour,andday,andmonth,andyear,tokillthethirdpartofthemen.
16Andthenumberofthearmiesofthehorsemenwastwohundredthousandthousand:Iheardthenumberofthem.
17AndsoIsawthehorsesinthevisionʰ,andthosewhosatonthem,havingbreastplatesoffire,andofjacinth,andbrimstone,andtheheadsofthehorseswereastheheadsoflions;andoutoftheirmouthsproceedsfireandsmokeandbrimstone.
18Bythesethreeplagueswasthethirdpartofthemenkilled,bythefire,andthesmoke,andthebrimstone,whichproceedsoutoftheirmouths.
19Forthepowerofthehorsesisintheirmouthandintheirtails:fortheirtailsarelikeserpents,havingheads,andwiththemtheydohurt.
20Andtherestʳofthemen,whowerenotkilledbytheseplagues,neitherrepentedoftheworksoftheirhands,thattheyshouldnotworshipthedemons,andtheidolsofgold,andsilver,andbrass,andstone,andwoodenˣ:whichneithercansee,norhear,norwalk:
21andtheyrepentednotoftheirmurders,noroftheirsorceries,noroftheirfornication,noroftheirthefts.
